Ideas for Chiangmai at Night

What can you do at night in Chiangmai?
Actually, there are so many restaurants and bars in the city of Chiangmai…

But I have 3 things to do in Chiangmai at night like the Night safari, Khantoke dinner and Night Market (especially Sunday night market!)

Chiang Mai Night Safari – A must see?

The night safari is only minutes from the city center (about 10 kilometers). The night safari starts at 7pm. The admission fee is 300 baht (~$10) each which included a tram ride around the area. But the fee will be cheaper at 50 baht ($2) if you don’t ride a tram and want to just walk around the safari.

Chiang Mai Night Safari was originally serviced in the evening through the night only but nowadays the Chiang Mai Night Safari has changed, tourists can visit the Safari both in the day and night time.
For me, I went there at night and I didn’t find anything SUPER interesting there- only the wild pig! It’s kind of scary to walk in that area at night. There are poor signs or security guards but they provide a really good Nature Theme Park. It’s just too big and dark!

Khantoke dinner – a must try…

This is northern Thailand dinner with Thai Northern traditional music and dance. The cost is about 550 – 600 baht ($12) you will get a food set and free re-fills but you have to pay extra for the drinks!

Khantoke are low sitting and eat with your fingers – but well, you can ask for spoons!

I kind of liked it here, I believe that the North has the sweetest culture in Thailand and it’s a good time to learn and see local music and dance which is different from the other parts of Thailand.

The show is very enjoyable but the food was kind of chilly and oily – I expected great food since it should be the highlight here.

There are several Khantoke restaurants in Chiangmai- but from the picture, I went to Khum Khantoke…

Sunday Night Market Walking Street, Tha Pae Gate – A must Plan for it!!!

I’d definitely try to plan to be in Chiangmai on a Sunday because it’s a great night market on Sunday night.
The market has tons more to offer, lots of original art, trinkets, as crafts give the market a unique feel.

The market takes over almost the entire old city (called “Tha Pae” gate) and you can find vendors even inside the old temples!

You can get a massage as well and get a nice break…

“Make sure you visit Chiang Mai on a Sunday for this experience!”

But if you can’t make it for Sunday night market, go to Chiangmai Night Bazaar located in the center of town.
The Night Bazaar is available everynight (whereas the Sunday Walking Street Night Market is on only on Sunday)

There is barely any room on the sidewalks, which are filled with people selling all sorts of stuff at decent prices. Make sure you ALWAYS negotiate the price.

From Tha Pae to Night Bazaar is about 20 minutes away if you come to Chiangmai on Sunday night, you can visit both markets!. There is a huge range of bars, coffee shops and restaurants to choose from, so plan your visit around for dinner…

There you go!!!
Hope these three “MUSTs”  give you some great ideas when you visit Chiangmai at night.
