Love Thai Beach, Go Krabi!

(ภาษาไทย) It looks like we took a long time to set up the trip to Krabi for our website, but we finally got our trip during Christmas (2013) – it was so nice and WE LOVED IT!

From Bangkok you can fly to Krabi Airport directly. There are so many flights from Bangkok, but here are some Thai airlines that you can take, Thai Smile Air (Thai Airway’s partner, roundtrip ticket ~5,190 – 5,500 THB) Bangkok Airways (Roundtrip ~3,300 – 5,680 THB) and Air Asia (Roundtrip ticket ~1,780 – 4,346 THB)

Krabi is a province on Southern Thailand’s Andaman coast. The island has over a dozen white sandy beaches, crystal-clear water, numerous caves, waterfalls, tropical forest, and “Hot Springs”…The Most popular beaches are Ao Nang, Railay, Noppharat Thara and Yoa…

Ao Nang is without doubt an international travel destination! (I think I was the only Thai that was not working there!) While not quite as laid back or as scenic as Railay, a high-octane activity resort that attracts climbers, scuba-divers and other thrill seekers.

The locals refer to Krabi as “8 Rainy – 4 Sunny” because Krabi is raining almost all year. It’s about 8 months rain (May-Dec) and 4 months sunny (Jan-Apr).

Not Surprisingly!!! Krabi is crowded from Dec thru the summer!

Krabi wasn’t as small a town as we thought! And we picked a hotel that was far away the first time, “Nantra de Deluxe Hotel” at Yoa Beach. But it wasn’t bad…GREAT DEAL, we got a private pool villa at 2,350 THB per night ($160)!!!

But it’s too far from everything, we had to pay for the van for a roundtrip ride to the town at 1,500 THB…so we were at this hotel only a night… We decided to move to the Mercure Krabi Deevana at Ao Nang Beach

We stay here for 4 nights with the package at 10,300 THB per person per package. The package included Airport transfers, breakfast, free wi-fi, and 2 “day trips” (4 Islands and Koh Hong tour).

Overall it was very nice, the driver was so friendly, warm welcome. They have a nice Pool Access room (great idea for family). The Location is OK, no beach view but we could walk or take the Tuk Tuk & taxi or rent a scooter! We chose the big scooter (350 thb per day), and it was a blast…

Some hotels that I saw at Ao Nang beach and it looks great outside!  Golden Beach Resort (this is right in frong the Ao Nang Beach, surrounding with restuarant and it’s in walking distant to the night market, about 5 mins walk to the monkey), Phupha Ao Nang Resort & Spa – it looks fancy but not pricey!!!

So for your first time in Krabi, we would like to recommend that you stay at either Ao Nang or Ao Railay (need to ride the boat from Ao Nang to Railay) beach. Noppharat Thara beach is not a bad choice, this beach is connected with Ao Nang beach. But Ao Nang consists chiefly of a main street, restaurants, bars, pubs, shops…and much more!

Especially at Ao Nang: We did enjoy this beach. We walked down the beach every evening to chase and play with the monkeys that came down from the mountain at sunset! There are so many monkeys around the beach – they are so cute and friendly!

Along the beach, there are many seafood restaurants and massage shops (it’s about 200-400 THB per hour).

Travel around the beach is so easy!!! There are motorcycle-taxi, tuk tuk and truck taxi everywhere. Nice and cheap! It’s even easier for us, we rented a big scooter at 350 baht per day (smaller scooter is ~ 200-250 thb).

Seafood is always fresh and yum in Thailand! All the locals told me the same thing, go to “Wang Sai Seafood”, it’s the most famous restaurant here but we tried “Ao Nang Seafood” and guess what? I want to get the air ticket to fly there just for the dinner! It’s SO GREAT!!!

If we planned to go back to Krabi again, I will try to stay at Railay beach….but for this trip WE LIKED AO NANG, NOPPHARAT THARA and YOA BEACHES – read more soon!

Here’s our trip with the 2 tour packages (that came with the hotel room) and another one that we paid extra for…

23 Dec 2013: 4 Islands Tour (by Phi Phi Tour company, web price at 750 baht per person)

The 4 islands tour is the most popular tour in Krabi. This is a full day trip to visit 4 Islands: Koh Poda, Koh Kai (Chicken island), Koh Tup, Railay Bay. Each island offers you a different feeling!

Tup Island – where you could see two small Islands joined together at low tide by a sandy bridge, and walk from one end to the other, is awesome! Koh Kai (Kai means Chicken in Thai) – no doubt why they called it that, it looks just like a chicken head – you will get about 40 mins to snorkel here. Then lunch at Poda Island, nice & relaxing spot (with another 30baht to get in the private area!) and the last stop at Railay beach where I’ve mentioned before, there is no road, but very stunning beautiful beaches…READ ALL ABOUT THIS TRIP soon!

24 Dec 2013: Jungle tour or City Tour (With Phi Phi Tour company, web price at 1,000 Baht per person)

When you feel like a break from the beach, this full day Krabi Jungle tour to Hot Springs, waterfall and Emerald pool, is the best choice for you in Krabi. And I really liked it!!!

They also stopped at Tiger Cave Temple (Please wear proper dress in temple), nice temple even though they don’t have real tigers in the temple…but we did enjoyed the trip…READ ALL ABOUT THIS TRIP soon!

25 Dec 2013 : Koh Hong island tour (With Phi Phi tour company, web price at 1,300 baht per person)

Hong means “room” in Thai, it’s because they have a hidden lagoon inside! The Hong Island is a little farther than the other 4 islands, that’s why this isn’t included in the 4 islands trip.

The water is so clear. you can see the fish and coral reefs under the water. It is good for snorkeling, swimming, sunbathing and relaxing…READ ALL ABOUT THIS TRIP soon!

There are so many tour company’s but we picked Phi Phi tour because they come with our hotel package. Overall this was OK for us, new and clean speed boat, good English tour guide on board. But I don’t really enjoy lunch box (it’s all the same every day!), and it’s a little too rushed for the island tour – we didn’t feel relaxed!

For us, if we come back here again, we will hire a long tail boat! And maybe you should too!!!
There are numerous long tail boats at Ao Nang Beach, it’s nice on the pictures – just like the Thai-southern gondola ride!

The price is acceptable! For 4 Islands tour it is about 2,200 baht, Koh hong is about 2,500 baht per boat and maximum of 6 persons.
You can contact the boat owner around Ao Nang Beach or other beaches when you see them, or contact Ao Nang Boat Service office (very easy to find at Ao Nang Beach).
Just go people! YOU WILL LOVE “KRABI”!!!
