Island Day Tour (Lipe Trip)

(ภาษาไทย)
Today is the Island day tour part of our trip in Lipe Island.

It’s a full day trip with our local guide “Dalia”, and we will visit 4 islands which surround Lipe; Koh Hin-ngam, Koh Yang, Koh Rawi and Koh Adang.

We will travel by boat taxi, the boat owner is local. Dalia told us that they will put the roof up for tourists in High season (November – April) but in low season, they will take off the roof because they use the boats to go fishing (tops up today).

We’re ready! After leaving Lipe Island, Dalia showed us some ruins. He said, it used to be the bridge from Adang island to Lipe island when the Mother of the King came here to give the Thai surname to all Lipe people.

But time passed, the bridge was destroyed by nature, but it’s a good memorial for all Lipe people even just the ruins…

We also saw the Mountain Resort on Sunset beach on Lipe Island – I think it’s kind of a cool location…
The tour today is included in our package with Bundhaya Resort (for more info, please read “Lipe Island”)
But you can find tour packages by walking down the Walking Street, I saw the package for 4 islands (like us) starting at $20 or 550 Baht per person.

1. Hin Ngam Island or Koh Hin Kgam

Local people tend to name islands for what they find in the island. Like this island name is Hin Ngam, meaning “Beautiful Rock”
Hin Ngam Island is about 30 mins away from Lipe. All the rocks in this island are round shaped and smooth texture, like river stones.

The rock on this island was made from this island cliff. The island is located in 3 converging currents which make the rock or coral in this area round and smooth!

The local technique for taking pictures with these rocks is to find your reflection on the rock. The rock in this island will look more beautiful when its wet, it will be very shiny.

Hin Ngam island is popular for Japanese who bring their own culture to pile up the rocks for making wishes on this island. So you will see piles of rock all around Hin Ngam island.

The common rule for tourists is to not bring the rocks home! Dalia told us that some business couple took the rocks home, after that their business was always in trouble. Finally, they took the rocks and returned them to the island…

I didn’t take any chances, and didn’t take any rocks!

2. Yang Island Or Koh Yang

Next we are off to Yang Island, it’s about 20 mins away from Hin Ngam island.

Yang means rubber, there are many rubber trees on this island but it’s a different kind of rubber tree. The fishermen like to use this kind of rubber as pitch to seal their boats.

But when we got to the island, Dalia told the boat owner to keep looking for a better spot for snorkeling.

I think the water was great! But it took a little while until Dalia could find the best area for us…

It was fun, we saw squid (alive) and many colorful fish!

We spent almost an hour snorkeling at Yang Island, next we are going to Rawi Island.

3. Rawi Island or Koh Rawi

Rawi means some kind of wood (wicker) , it’s very tough and hard to break. The boat owner used this kind of wood for making the boat roof as it’s a very tough wood!

Rawi island is very popular among Thai people. Many trees are along the beach, its shade makes it cool and a beautiful place for lunch.

Also, Rawi is on the commercial for Thai tourism…so Thai people like to visit and take pictures so when they see it on TV they can say, “I was there”!

The tourist like to stop at Rawi for lunch. There is no restaurant in this island, so you have to bring your own food. But we had Dalai take care us!

The food box is recycle, and it’s great idea! This way you are sure to take your trash when you go.
Also, there are so many monkeys in this island – so watch your belongings. Even your trash, please bring it back to your resort trash bin, don’t leave it here. The monkeys will drag stuff (like trash) all around the island before the officer comes to clean up!!!

But it’s a funny sign “Do Not Feet the Monkeys!”
But before you start teasing the Thai Forest Rangers, let me know how your spelling in Thai is!

Rawi beach has white and black sand. It’s normal to see the white sand but the black sand is from Hin Ngam island as the shiny rock is kind of black.

After lunch we just stayed relaxing along the Rawi Beach. The swings under the big tree is great atmosphere, but it’s busy all the time!

Rawi is a really good stop – great place for pictures, after we walked and digested our lunch, we head to Adang Island!

4. Adang Island or Koh Adang

Adang Island is opposite with Lipe Island.

Adang or Adung means King Prawn, as there were so many big prawn, shrimp in this area before…

Adang island is the last stop for our island tour and the 2nd chance for our snorkeling!

And we love snorkeling in Adang Island, the water is very clear…clearer than the first snorkeling in Yang island. And I think it’s the most impressive area ever!

Good grief, as I am not a good swimmer, Dalia put me in the life ring and dragged me around the island!!

It’s perfect!!! Water is pretty high but we can see the rocks on the ground!

At last, Dalia took us to walk around the Adang island. This is the new beach but it’s so amazing to see the pine trees grow up and line up by itself and it’s just wonderful around the island!

The island tour was so amazing because of our tour guide “Dalia”, he didn’t make us feel he came to work…but he made us feel like he came to join us and made it right!!!

End of the island tour for today, we started about 11am and got back to the resort about 5pm.

And we were so glad that we made this trip!!!
