Lumpinee Thai Boxing (New Stadium at Ram-Intra)

I’ve never tried to go to see Thai boxing at the original Lumpinee stadium, but the old stadium has been replaced by a new facility on Ram Intra Road, in Bangkok’s outskirts (No BTS or MRT line). The stadium is nice , clean and air condition but little hard to get to without a car or taxi. It’s kind of towards Don Muang Airport (but not exactly at the Airport).

This traditional Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) have matches every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, the admission fees are 200, 1,500 and 2,000 Baht for ringside seating.

Tuesday: 06.30-11.00pm, Friday: 06.30-11.00pmSaturday: 04.00-08.00pm and 08.15-12.00pm

If you buy the 200 baht – it’s too close with the local Muay Thai fans and the are kind of rowdy!

Lumpinee is one of the few places in Thailand where gambling is permitted and it takes place at the second level. The betting is done by hand-signals, as in a stock exchange trading floor. The security service at Lumpinee is managed by armed military police officers…

Our ringside ticket is expensive but worth it! This is our review for the 2nd session on Saturday. We got to the stadium about 8pm, there are a few Thai Boxing shops and Coffee shops in front the stadium.

We’re called to get inside about 8.15pm, you can bring your own drink to the stadium (only no glass bottle allowed). But they do serve the drinks (beer and soft drinks) and chips inside all the time.

The matches go by weight but they are young and teenagers to young adult boxers. It was a little boring at first as they looked really young for me!
The 8th match is the main fight for tonight. I don’t know why they fight so late – don’t they sleep???

Every matches will start will the real art of Muay Thai sacred dance and real live muay thai music!!

Saturday night is a little special because they will broadcast the main fight live on Thai TV Channel 5. So most of the time, they will have a quiet night on Saturday night since you can stay home and enjoy the fight..

The format is 5 rounds, and 15 minutes each for the scores. Unless they win by knockout!

Young blood! There are no jokes, and often they have bloody eyes, nose!!!

When the main match was coming up I got excited…!

No matter who wins but I appreciated the experience…it was hard for me as I am not into blood sports 🙁

If you liked the winner, they provide a photo spot for you to take pictures with them at the end of each match.

Don’t be put off if you have an interest in Thai boxing, of course, but if you are a novice like me then be prepared to find it all a bit gruesome!!!
