Train Market or Ta Lad Rod Fi (Ratchadapisek)

Train Market (Chatuchak)—CLOSED?!?!?

I feel really bad that the Train Market (Thai: Ta Lad Nad Rod Fi or Ta Lad Rod Fi), next to JJ Market is closed !!!

I keep remembering just how cool the night weekend market was…It’s one of my favorite night spots to ride the Harley out during the weekend!

But it’s now back and open on Ratchadapisek Road, Behind the Esplanade Shopping Mall, MRT: Thailand Cultural  Centre- Exit 3

The Train Market opens every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6pm until midnight.  But I would recommend you to go there after 7pm when all the shops are  ready.

This market moved into an unoccupied warehouse area and transformed it into a night market like the former one in Chatuchak, and they even kept the same name, “Train Market” or “Talad Nad Rod Fai”.

Overall is kind of a 60’s vintage flea market feel to it!
There are so many sections that you can’t walk it in just one night! Well… Ok, maybe you could but you couldn’t “shop it” all in one night! This is a great place to take your time, there’s food and beer, and music, and all kinds of strange off the wall vendors…

Something that I really like here is that the sellers are really nice and welcome you to take photos!!!

For me, shopping in the market is about the same with other markets around the city…But the food here along with the bars and bands makes this market a nice place to hang out and relax.

Somethings must try in Train Market – I guess !

1. Holy Cheese

Great sandwich and ye… It’s cheesy.

Tim really likes this shop, it’s busy and crowded so try to get there early, like between 6-7pm.
For Thai’s, I think it’s a little pricy, a small piece of sandwich at 165 baht!?!?

Try the SON OF THE BEEF!

2. Pad Thai Size Big

We had a big group dinner here, all is good.  Pad Thai is ok (wasn’t that great) but they have another items like Somtam, Fried Chicken, and seafood stuff.
I would recommend you to try Som Tam Thai and grilled shells with a cold Beer!

It’s reasonable price, we were a group of 10 and we had as much as we could at (and a couple rounds of beer) 2,300 baht total!

3.Carlos made me eat a big silk worm!!!

I think he didn’t understand that being Thai doesn’t mean I can eat anything. And I think Bugs are for tourist or who wanna try something weird! It’s not a real food for us!

But Carlos and I were fine after we had some big bugs – great experience, once!!!

4. Ice & topping (Pang Yen Jumbo)

It looks like this shop is very popular as well. I didn’t try it yet (it looks too big for me) but Timur had one “Strawberry” and I saw he finished it! So I’m guessing it’s good – right?

They have many flavors and toppings – try it if you can beat the line!

5. Crazy Big Bowl Noodles (Ba Mi Jom Pa Lang)

The big bowl noodle shop was popular! You’ll see Thai teenagers lined up for this noodle shop. The noodle are served in a really big size of bowl and lots of stuff in it.

Price is about 300-700 baht per bowl. By the way, there are a few bloggers that commented, that it’s not good quality stuff in the noodles… Tell me if you are going to try it with yourself!

And….It’s not TOO hot to walk at night – this is really a nice NIGHT market, I’m sure you will like it here to shop, taste the local food, or have a beer and do some people watching!

By the way, there is another Train Market in Sri Nakrarin Road by Seacon Square, but the shopping mall has no sky train (BTS) or subway (MRT) stop over there. There is a stop off the Airport Rail Link that would be within 5 kilometers, but you’ll still need a taxi.
