Universal Studios Singapore

If you plan to visit Singapore or if you are in Singapore, you can’t miss a trip to Universal Studios Singapore (USS)!!!

This theme park located on Sentosa Island had its soft opening in 2010 and the grand opening in 2011. This is the second Universal Studios to open in Asia (Japan being the first).

Since its location is on Sentosa Island, you can combine this trip and visit the biggest Merlion in Merlion Park.

Today we took the MRT to HabourFront station, this station is in Vivo City, the shopping mall.

After getting off the station, go up to floor L3 (North Court). You will see the big ticket counter for multiple events on Sentosa Island. But you can shop or find promotions on-line at http://www.rwsentosa.com/Attractions/UniversalStudiosSingapore

But we couldn’t plan for this trip, it was raining in the morning (and we thought it wouldn’t stop!!!)

Luckily the rain stopped before noon, and we headed out to get our ticket about 2pm! The ticket was 74SGD or 1,850 Thai Baht or $62US for adult. This is regular price for a 1 day pass. Children and senior tickets are cheaper!

But if you plan to go there with the kids, there are “height requirements”, and it looks like they have to be taller than 92 cm at least for most rides.

Today we will go by Monorail. You can use Ezlink, and the MRT top up card but make sure that you have more than 4SGD left in the card.

The monorail has only 4 stations to Sentosa Island, and it’s about a couple of minutes between each station.

For Universal Studios, we got off at WaterFront station.

Universal Studios Singapore is 20 hectares (49 acres) in size, 7 theme parks and a total of 24 attractions!

From the entrance (where the big World symbol of Universal Studios is…), you can walk without the map! The layout of theme parks look like a circle, you can walk clockwise or counterclockwise like us (black arrows from above map).

But for me, if you come with young kids, turn left or walk clockwise… More stuff for small kids! But if you come with big kids (like us), turn right!!! Stuff for grown kids and adults are on this side.

But let’s try to follow us!

After we walked in, the main entrance is the first zone “Hollywood”, I think this zone is mostly the souvenir shops (themed toys, etc), and the Broadway-style theatre. We took pictures with the famous characters, like Kung Fu Panda!!!

Then we turned right and found our second zone “New York”. The area is enhanced by neon lights and flanked by street facades that set the scenes for big city fun and also real-time movie production for most Hollywood blockbuster films.

And next, our 3rd Zone “Sci-Fi City” where our favorite attraction is, “Transformer, the ride”!

Actually, at this zone you will see the big roller coasters “Battlestar Calactica: Human & Cylon”, 2 lines of red and blue. But it was closed due to weather – But no discount???

Then the Transformers, the Ride is a great attraction and it’s a must! (if you are taller than 101cm).  The line was tricky!  We thought no line but when we walked inside there are so many waiting rooms.

We felt bad because we planned to buy the Express ticket which you don’t have to wait in line but it’s another 50SGS or 1,250 Thai baht or 42USD extra!

We love the express ticket!  It’s a very fast line for every ride!

The online ticket provides 2 options of express tickets (at 30SGD and 50SGD)…but if you get the walk-in price at the shop inside Universal Studios, it’s only one price at 50 SGD.

Back to our ride, Transformers The Ride…it’s the dark ride, you will need to wear 3D glasses.   You will feel like you are in the movie!!!

I only can say “you can’t miss this ride”!!!

Next, the 4th zone “Ancient Egypt”…no doubt it features obelisks and pyramids which are typical of Ancient Egypt.

The most popular attraction in this zone is “Revenge of the Mummy” or Mummy Ride!

This ride is another a must as well as The Transformer.

The Mummy ride is a high-speed dark ride – you can’t carry anything for the ride, but they provided free lockers outside.

It kept us screaming…. very good!
This ride was a surprise for us, it started going up and down and backwards and really fast!

It’s one of a must in Universal Studios Singapore!!!

After we rode the Mummy ride, they’re selling our screaming picture at 20SGD per one copy.  You can pay a little more at 25SGD to get a hard copy and a soft file (by email).

It’s fun picture why not get one???!!!

There are so many attractions and good for kids…but for us, they are kind of boring!

Next zone, 5th zone is The Lost World or I can say it’s a Jurassic Park!!!

The most popular and a little long line (but we had the express ticket!!!) in The Lost World zone was “the Rapids Adventure”)…

This looks like you will be rafting within the Jurassic Park compound – it’s cute ride but you may get wet.  But they have a poncho sell at 3SGD…

Or get in the Drying Pod if you get soaked from the ride!

In the same zone “The Lost World”, there is a live-show which you can’t miss it “Water World”…

It’s a great show without a doubt from all stunts, great arena, sound, effect even the seaplane crash landing right in front of us!!!

But Remember, there are about 2-3 show times per day, check in front the gate to make sure that you won’t miss the show!

You should come before ShowTime about 20 minutes and pick your own risk seat!
The Blue is front to the show is “wet zone”, The Green is “splash zone” and stay dry and safe is “the Brown zone”…

PS: the Express ticket didn’t help anything for this show!!!

The way to get wet is not from the show…but it’s from the entertainment from all stunts before the show…it’s fun – Don’t miss!!!

Next the 6th Zone, “Far Far Away”, I think this is the Shrek’s castle!

It looks like the most popular for us in this zone was “Shrek 4-D adventure”, the big theater with 4D effects (water spray, wind, hot air, fog, etc).  It’s a nice show, great for kids…

Remember, there are more than one attraction for each zone but you can’t try all of them!  Also, some of them are for young kids – we can’t fit in!!!

Our vote for MUST DO are 1. Transformer’s ride 2. Mummy’s ride and 3. The Water World show

After you visit all the zones, we stopped and shop around the shop in the main road.

It’s nice trip, even it’s a little overprice…

If we can come back to Singapore, we would come back here only if they open or operate both big roller coasters!

Don’t worry about food inside the Universal Studios…there are so many choices!

We stopped at Frair’s in Far Far Away zone, they have a really good fried chicken at 10SGD…
They are also the big popcorn shop “Garrett” and “Hersey’s” chocolate shop outside Universal Studios…

Nice treat! Fun time, we really enjoyed Universal Studios in Singapore…
