Full Moon Party, Koh Phangan – Thailand (Travel from Koh Samui)

(ภาษาไทย) Everybody loves party but this more than just a party… it’s a full moon party and it’s on the beach!!!!
The most popular Full Moon party in the world at Haad-Rin beach in Koh Pha-ngan. Am I too old for it???

Haad Rin beach is in Koh Pha-ngan is about 100 kms away from Surathani, and it’s about 20 km away from Koh Samui. So it’s easy for us to join the Full Moon party from our stay in Koh Samui.

So how do you get there from Samui? We bought a round-trip speedboat ticket at 900 baht ($30 per person) but before we’re boarded, we did upgraded our ticket to be a VIP ticket (200baht)– that allows you to skip the line, it’s a really good idea for the way back to Samui Island after the party. The line to come back was long and full of grumpy people who are tired and mostly had too much to drink. The VIP ticket was worth every penny!

Remember, if you really want to plan for a Full Moon trip, you need to buy the boat ticket in advance. It’s pretty hard to get a walk-in ticket during the day of party.
Dark & Scary? Don’t worry everybody has to wear a life jacket! It took only about 20-25 mins from Koh Samui to Koh Pha-ngan. The pier is right in front of the entrance, and it’s 100 baht entry fee for everyone with a free wristband (cute, colorful and good for souvenir).

It looks really fancy and like a real cool party when you walk inside. Girls all dress-up and they look so cute – but If you’re over 30, then you’re probably going to feel a little bit outdated at the Full Moon party LOL…
Hey! That’s what I’m feeling! Am I the oldest women in this party!!! They are all between 16-25 years old!!!
But who cares? We are here just to have fun…
There are so many shops for neon painting (it grows in dark!). It was my mistake to stop at the first shop to paint “Something” and “Jam.com”, that was 100 baht each, and he didn’t do a good job!!!

But when you walked a little more, you can buy your color paints only 20 baht (per color) and another 20 baht for brush. Now you can paint whatever you want, it’s more fun and much cheaper!

Then we headed to the beach. There are many food and drink stalls, you can find many kinds of food from BBQ, meat skewers, corn, sandwiches, pizza to the local foods too!

Fancy sipping cocktails in color buckets! The local called these drinks “4×100”, it was originally from 4 different kinds of drinks in the bucket at 100 baht ($3). Right now, it looks like the prices start at 200 baht per bucket…

I think the cocktail buckets made us look like the insane drinkers, and it’s the way people in this party look like… I just had it for the picture, I don’t think I can drink them all in one night!

There are so many pubs and bars and local drink stalls along the beach, massive amount of people and hard to move. Also seriously loud music everywhere – no need to try to talk, you can only dance in this party. Or join the fire ropes, only make sure that you can make it – it’s real fire and a real burn!

It’s a blast! I do enjoy watching people dress-up for the party. And here is the one that I found and he is awesome!!!

The picture that I took with him is one of my favorite pictures ever!

One of the most important things for any outdoor party with massive amounts of people is a good TOILET! The best and the most expensive one is about 20 baht per person per time. The others are ok at about 5-10 baht. But you can see it’s a long line for service.

So the easy way for many men is to use the open air toilet… I’m not a real fan of this as I just came back from a SCUBA trip… At least my trip was the day before I saw this!!

So the overall party was fun and we did enjoy the people and the party.
The Full Moon party was infamous due to drugs, sex, sick people, etc. But nowadays, the Thai government takes care and watches out for the partyers more than in the past and this makes it better and even safer!
We would like to recommend this as a must do once in your lifetime even you are not a real party person you will have fun… It’s good to just say that you have been.

We left the party after 1am, because our speedboat will start service from 1am-7am. We tried to avoid the other passengers but there was still a crowded line for boarding already. Good thing we had a VIP ticket.
The Full Moon Party is on the night of the full moon every month. And it starts in early evening until the next morning!
But if the Buddhist holidays fall on full moons (the date change every year), the sale of alcohol is forbidden and the Full Moon Party has to be postponed to the next day.

Right now, it’s not just a full moon party in Haad Rin beach. There is also other moon parties “The Blackmoon Party” and “The Halfmoon Party”. The main idea is to just keep the economy flowing in this island. But the other “moon parties” are not that popular like the Full Moon Party…

Anyway, Phangan island is not just a party island !!! Rich in natural beauty, with more than three waterfalls and National parks. After the party you can take an original Long tail boat Trip around the island, visiting a few different beaches.

We might come back here again and if we do we’ll plan to stay in Pha-ngan Island…
