Geoje Monorail, South Korea

Ridding the monorail from POW camp up to the top of the mountain “Gyerong-san”, worth the ride!

This monorail (거제 모노레일) opened in 2018, it’s a pretty new tourist attraction in Geoje Island. The monorail takes you to the top of one of the famous mountains in Geoje “Gyerong-san”, this mountain is a very steep, about 560-meter mountain slope!

You can do both the POW (거제도 포로수용소유적공원) and monorail on the same day but we weren’t able to book a ticket on our first visit because the monorail tickets sold out.

*At this point, we are at a monorail station on the top of Gyeongran Mountain.

We tried to walk-in for a monorail ticket one more time, and it was sold out again!

So I guess, during the summertime in Geoje -it’s hard to get the monorail ticket for the sunset ride, book online ahead of your visit!

Luckily, we have a Korean friend “BC” who bought the monorail ticket online for us, this way we can select the date and time for the ride!  Ticket online is available at http://www.pow.or.kr/_main/main.html

*The online ticket is available to purchase with a local credit card only, and the website is only in the Korean language (the year 2020)

We had to stop to get the real tickets at the ticket office before ridding monorail. I would recommend you to come a little early before your riding time.

Walk to the monorail station and hand your ticket at the monorail station attendant, then wait for your turn to ride.

The monorail cab holds 5-6 people per ride, I took a drink with me – no problem! But pets are not allowed!

Once you get inside the monorail, buckle up!

It’s a very-very slow ride up, it’s less than 2 km but it took more than 25 mins to ride to the peak!

I had just a little motion sickness…but I was fine once I got out!

Up to the top of the Gyerong-san mountain, it’s a very nice view – we picked the good day in August!

It’s a nice walk to the viewpoint where we can see the whole island or port view!

Some people would buy only a one-way ticket for a monorail ride, then they hike up or down instead of riding.

Riding down the monorail is much more fun (for us), it’s faster and a little thrilling 🙂

The round trip ride is about 3.6km, and our tickets are about $10 (12,000won) per person for a round trip ride (Aug 2020).

My friend told me that the last monorail to ride back down is about 9 pm, but it depends on the weather as well.

ECOSYSTEM

Positive growth.

Nature, in the common sense, refers to essences unchanged by man; space, the air, the river, the leaf. Art is applied to the mixture of his will with the same things, as in a house, a canal, a statue, a picture.

But his operations taken together are so insignificant, a little chipping, baking, patching, and washing, that in an impression so grand as that of the world on the human mind, they do not vary the result.

The sun setting through a dense forest.
Wind turbines standing on a grassy plain, against a blue sky.
The sun shining over a ridge leading down into the shore. In the distance, a car drives down a road.

Undoubtedly we have no questions to ask which are unanswerable. We must trust the perfection of the creation so far, as to believe that whatever curiosity the order of things has awakened in our minds, the order of things can satisfy. Every man’s condition is a solution in hieroglyphic to those inquiries he would put.
