Asiatique – The Riverfront

Eat-Shop-Fun  The Asiatique Riverfront has it all.

The new shopping entertainment venue opened in March 2012.  It’s stunning decoration which transformed the 100 years teak warehouses to a charming of night market by the river in Bangkok.

Back in the 1900s, during the reign of King Rama V, construction for this pier began to service the East Asiatic Company, a business dedicated to the export of teak wood between the Kingdom of Siam (the former name of Thailand) and European.

Today, that same area which the East Asiatic pier occupies is being restored to its original glory under the name “ASIATIQUE The Riverfront”

To avoid the traffic (WHICH IS REALLY BAD!!!), take the BTS to Taksin, Center pier. There is Asiatique FREE shuttle boat services every 10-15 mins from 5pm – midnight every night.

But if you take your car, there are 2 parking areas, near the Asiatique which have reasonable parking fees, if you can find a spot…!

If you remember the Suan Lum Night Bazaar which closed in past years.

The Asiatique is almost identical that Suan Lum Night plaza…especially, the Performance – Joe Louis Puppet Theater and Calypso Bangkok Theater moved to this area as But at the Asiatique, the best spot for me is by the river, it’s got a nice cool breeze and a good view.

There are so many restaurants over there but it’s extremely expensive (by Thai standards).
Most of them serve seafood and western food. But you can still find good Thai food here.

Just like me, I went to Warehouse#6, where there are lots of small restaurants. I stopped and tried Thai food at Chic Grill Seafood Lover. It’s really nice and cheap! Especially, Tom Yom Seafood, I paid about 500 baht for two people and 3 different dishes!!!

Warehouse#5, opposite with Warehouse#6, looks like a nice grilled BBQ place as well, but I’m too full now…maybe next time!

But the highlight for Asiatique would be the BIG WHEEL – which is high about 52 meters. This is a French standard furris wheel and imported from Holland.  When you ride up there, you will see the overview of Asiatique and the River.

The Big Wheel admission is now 200 baht for adult and 150 baht for kid (lower than 120 meters high). If you come with less than 4 people, they will seat you with somebody else.

There is a VIP ride at 1000 baht for 2 person, private ride – and no need to wait in line!!! (And also, The SUPER VIP if you have more than 2people from 1500-2000 baht, get the bastket of cocktail and snack!!!)

You will get about 3 round trip rides and it takes about 10 minutes+ (mine was 11.47 mins!). It’s nice for all ages if you are not scared of heights…

Picture from the highest point of the Big Wheel – very nice!

Great to spend an evening, many of little shops full of clothes, scarves, souvenirs, decorations, etc…

There are more than a shopping area, you will find so many things convenient out there. Especially, Thai massage, and fish spa, it’s about 100-150 Baht per 30 mins, let the fish sucks your feet!!!
This is place which is very charming in its approach and style, great to hang out in the evening. Come to cool down from the hot weather during the day. It’s really cool place to eat and trendy shops and more people come to shopping with their children.

It is packed on the weekend, quieter during the week — BUT DON’T MISS IT!!!
