Geoje Maengjongjuk Bamboo Theme Park, South Korea

Geoje Maengjongjuk Bamboo Theme Park, South Korea

This theme park is about 22acres of bamboo forest on the side of a hill, prepare for a good walk!

This place is fantastic, we didn’t know what to expect but glad we went.

Geoje Maengjongjuk Theme Park (Kr: 거제맹종죽테마파크).
Note:  Juk (죽) means Bamboo, Maengjong (맹종) is a type of bamboo.

Operating Hours: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm (summer), 5:30 pm (winter), open all year round
We were there at about 4.30pm in Summer, and the ticket lady told us to start walking back around about 5:50 pm.

Admission Fee: Adults 3000, Teenagers 1500 won
No food or drink allowed but I always have a water bottle with me! There are a few spots for drinking machines inside a park. And a little snack/drinks/popsicle shop inside.

*Traveling during the pandemic, they provide the hand sanitizer!

No pets allowed…!
Be aware that some of the trails are steep and not wheelchair friendly.

Tim likes the dragon bamboo statue in front of the park, an amazing bamboo job!

*Dragon Bamboo Statue…

I like the bamboo slide, a very classic idea to make a playground from the bamboo. It seems to work very well and fun!

*You can find the Bamboo Slide in front of the entrance

I don’t think I can make a visit to this park during the day in Summer day, it is very hot and humid and the bamboo blocks out the breeze. I think visiting around 4pm was a good choice for us in August.

Unfortunately, the map and most of the signs for this bamboo park are in Korean. But it’s hard to get lost if you keep walking on the path.

Some teenagers come here to sit around, reading, or watching their smartphones.

They have tables and chairs around the park. We visited when it wasn’t busy, it was peaceful and amazing!

Especially liked just laying on a swing looking up and relaxing.

A little cave…???

Bamboos are quite big and tall, I guess they have to plan for years for this theme park.

@#@$#%@%….Gerrrrrrrr!!!

The bamboo walkway is like having a good foot massage!!! I really love this idea and wish I could have some bamboo at home.

If you have walked enough, you will find a little snack shop inside the park.

It’s a good rest spot over here at this snack shop.

You can overlook Chilcheondo island from here!

There is An Adventure site (I think this is good for kids or young teenagers), you need to pay a little more to do this. But it looks fun if you are looking for outdoor activities for kids on this island (especially, during Covid-19!!!)

From here, we can see the Bamboo workshop house but it was quiet and nobody walked there. So we skipped that visit and started our return trip from here.

We spent 1.5hrs inside the park because it’s closing, I think 2hrs would be better!

I’d like to visit here again in winter…we will come back here again in the next 3-4 months. (Stay tuned with us!!!)

Walking out the park we stopped in at the coffee shop, “Zoo Cafe”.

They have lots of animal toys in that cafe. I think kids would like those toys, but we don’t LOL.

We care about ice-cream!…

The Bamboo theme park is great for people who live on the island to visit or if you already made a plan to visit Geoje island, put this in your program.  I mean, the park wasn’t that WOW to make you fly all the way to just visit it…

FYI Maemiseong (Maemi Castle or 매미성) is about 5-10 mins drive away from Bamboo Park.

But you know Geoje is a very small island, it takes about 45-50mins to drive from the north to the south of the island!.
