Octopus Village, Geoje Island

Okhwa Village (옥화마을) is newly open in December 2020 where you can do 3 things, Okwha Mural Village, Boardwalk(~1km), and 3km hike to Jangseungpo!

I call this village an Octopus Village because they put Octopus pictures everywhere…(I’m not sure…why?)

The Village is new (just opened in 2021), and it’s about 15mins drive from Okpo. There might be more than one way to go there, depends where you come from. If you know where “BIG BURGER” is you can get to the village by driving past that BIG BURGER shop to Okrim .

You can also get there by bus to “옥화마을” Okhwa Village, the bus stop is right next to the boardwalk!

We went there late in the afternoon on Sunday, the car parking lot was packed!

We just parked as soon as we could then we walked down the road.

The colorful painting on the sidewalk is very different from the other ports.

You can look over to see the boardwalk in front of you, but to walk there you will pass the mural village first.

There are so many great paintings on the house wall or fence, they are looking like new or just finished!

See, octopus paintings are everywhere!

Next to the boardwalk, it looks like a long boardwalk over the sea, but it’s only 1km long.

We’re here in February, the camellias have started blooming (it looks like it’s going to all bloom in March!).

I’m sure it will make this boardwalk even more beautiful.

The seaside gives you a great view, the water is very clear…

The boardwalk is also wheelchair friendly, many people came here with their dogs, and we did too!

In the middle of the boardwalk, you can walk out over to the ocean. There is a small glass bottom as well, a really small one!

From here you can keep walking on the boardwalk until the end.

Once you walk up to the hill, that means you started the hike! But you can just turn around whenever you want to!

When you start to walk up the hill there is a small Pavillion.

The sign says it’s a 3km walk from here to Jangseungpo port.
But we didn’t walk all the way to Jangseungpo today. I took a long walk for 1km from the Pavillion, it’s quite rocky but it’s NOT bad to hike!  (Read more about our hiking trip – soon)

It’s so peaceful…some couples just came here for sunset or just for a beautiful view – sweet~~~

There are many people who tried to fish over here as well.

I’m sure this village will be more crowded if there is NO PANDEMIC !!!

There are some pensions around the area but they’re very quiet — they looked like they are NOT in service!
Only a few restaurants but most of them offer RAW FISH, the famous dish in this area.
For the foreigners, it might not a good place to eat…

There are a couple of coffee shops as well…you know that most coffee shops in South Korea open at 11 am and close at 2 am!
