Cable Car to SkyWalk at the peak of Mt. Balwangsan

Mt. Balwangsan is situated at 1,458m above sea level and is the 13th highest mountain in South Korea. You can enjoy both hiking and skiing in the winter season, much like in the Alps.

During our ski trip in Pyeongchang, we were told to try this cable car by Marta, our friend and neighbor in Geoje Island where we lived in Korea.

Korean name: 발왕산 기 스카이워크 (Balwangsan Ki Skywalk).

The Cable car is located in Yongpyong Ski Resort. There were many skiers who would ride the cable car as well, so we were confused thinking it is for skiers only.

*We parked right here, in front of GREENPIA Condo.

But I saw some local tourists getting tickets for the cable car, so we just jumped in the line.

*No pets allowed*

The round trip for the cable car ride was 25,000won per person, it’s a long ride. It took almost 15 minutes up – it’s a fantastic view!

Just remember if it’s too windy or raining hard, the Cable car will not open.

During Covid19, they would let only one family ride together – I like this idea!

We can see a very nice view around the ski resort when we’re riding in the cable car.

Many skiers take this cable car and ski down from the mountain – it would be fun if you are good at skiing!

It took a while to arrive at the cable car station on top of the mountain at 1,458m above sea level !!!

During Covid-19, we will be lead to go up to the elevator to the 4th floor for skywalk (but you can also take the stairs, we would like to recommend you to walk down).

The Skywalk is a very amazing view (but it’s freaking cold here even though it’s not snowing today!)

There are not many people on the skywalk, we were away from people and we thought we can take off the mask to take our picture.

But the staff was yelling to us to put the mask back on!!!

OK OK…we put the mask back on 😀

No words to describe the view up here, you have to come to visit – it’s nice even if you are not skiing!

Around this area, you can also hike – but it is too cold for us. But not for Korean people (they are very strong!)

Maybe you can do this in the summertime, view more pictures from this blog – https://blog.naver.com/huk2lover/222185989435

We walked back down by stairs, there are so many photo zones for K-drama displays, they were filmed over here.

There is a restaurant a coffee shop and a souvenir shop up here. We were glad to have lunch at the Dragon Castle, they don’t have a big menu here but some of the Korean soups are perfect for the cold weather.

We spent about 1.5 hrs for this trip at Cable Car in Yongpyong Ski Resort.

Glad we made it!

Thanks again, Marta 🙂
