Places for fun in Geoje, South Korea

Geoje island is not that big, but there is something fun around the island! These are some places that I have fun at while my husband is at work.

YOGA/ FLYING YOGA/ PILATES

Options for where to workout in Geoje, there are more of them are in Goyheon and Aju-dong but I lived in OKPO and I liked to be able to walk to workout.
There is YY Gym, this is a business chain, they have many branches around Geoje, also one(s) in Okpo – one is for Pilates and Spin Class, and one on the opposite side of the road for Yoga, Zumba and Yoga Fly (Aerial Yoga).
I’m very into YOGA FLY or Aerial Yoga – so I joined classes in Aju-dong and Okpo. But I prefer the one in Okpo because I could walk there. I enjoyed the class so much, I had great memories with the instructor and yoga fly members.

I also joined the pilates in the opposite building, it was very interesting but the price seemed to get higher and higher anytime when I asked to renew 😀

I would recommend you to try Spin class in KOREA, it’s not just spin but they did dance too!

There is 30/70 English – Korean speaking in the class, just because I was there as the only ex-pat but it’s not that hard to guess – plus I do know the Korean basic words for a workout.

During 2019-2021, I paid about 18000won per Pilates class, 10000won per Spinning class, and about 15000won per yoga fly class. It looks like the long-term membership will be cheaper.

Dance class here is quite a bit challenging if you like to dance, it’s a MUST TRY!

This studio, if you go on Mon, Wed, Fri in the morning, the instructor lady will offer a free trial class…
You can mention that you heard about the trial Class from Jam.  It might work!!!

There are so many gyms you can try but I have no experience with it in Okpo, like Island Fitness (in Lotte Mart). There are a few on the main road and the same building as the first Starbuck (Okpo Traditional market).

Hair Salon (for Both Men and Women)

First thing when you wanna find when you move to Korea, Where can I find an English speaking hairstylist?

I found one in Okpo, and I went there at least once a month to do my gray hair cover. I also got the hair cut there too.

My hair stylist’s name “Chang” (not sure I spell her name right). She is the best hairstylist I had in South Korea (based on where I have tried over in Seoul, Busan and Geoje)

If you don’t yet have gray hair, just try to get shampoo and style with her. She does massage during the shampoo, it’s so great!!!

The salon is pretty busy at all times, and more male customers than females!!!

I paid 55,000won for my gray cover and 25,000won for wash & dry, it’s about 10000won for hair cut.

Professional Hair Johee,  it’s not far from Lotte Mart, the same street with 120 Mary Street Coffee Shop, just keep walking down to the pier.

PAINTING CLASS

I do like painting. There is a painting class in Okpo. The teacher is a very talented lady. Her painting looks very amazing!
Her class is on the 3rd floor of the Coffee shop “Kuk-Jay-Dang (국제당)”. Her class is very flexible and depends on us. The only problem is, she couldn’t explain much about colors/technique due to the language. Most of the time, she would show on her paper how to do it first then I just copied it.

But she is very patient, relaxed and enjoys having us in the class. She has all kinds of painting colors available at her shop, you can pick anything you want (watercolor, acrylics, pencil color, etc).

I went there with Marta, we always had our project for what to paint to show her. And she will make it happen for us.

During 2020-2021, I paid 100000won for 4 times painting classes. All painting projects took about 1-2 classes to finish (watercolor).

Thai Massage in Aju-Dong

Guess what? I got the real Thai massage here in Geoje Island. I couldn’t find REAL Thai Massage in Busan, neither in Seoul!

How I did know that this is the real Thai massage because the missuses were speaking Thai to me!!! They are Thai and come from Thailand (like me!!!)

The Thai massage was about 35000won per hour, it’s much cheaper than what we paid in Busan (45000-60000won per hour). The funny part was, all our Korean friends told us that we don’t have to tip but the Thai lady pointed me to the sign about tipping info. They are asking for 5000won per hour for an extra tip but the sign is in KOREAN!

The shop owner is very nice, you can send an English message to make the reservations (010-2543-1220)

Working hour: 1000AM-0200AM
Address: 2nd Floor, 20, Aju 1 ro (Geoje The Thai)

Korean Language Class

I have studied the Korean Language since we moved to Busan, so I continue studying online with my same teacher in Geoje Island.
The individual class (face to face) was 50000-60000 won in Busan. But it’s about 25000won per hour online. I still have her contact if you want to try.   My teacher’s name is Juwon, she is a very good teacher!

KOREAN SPA at SEA SPA, Geoje

If you like the Korean spa, there is a big one…
Normally, Korean Spa will separate men and women. But at Sea Spa, they provide the “Family Spa”, which literally means “private spa room” for you and your couple.

We didn’t get the chance to try because when we settled down after our move-in Geoje- the Covid19 was just about to begin…
