Fox & Friends and my first Broadway show “Wicked”, Time Square (NYC)

For our trip to New York City, we stayed in the heart of Time Square. The first evening we arrived, we did the evening Liberty cruise. On the next day, Tim started the morning with a visit Fox and Friends the news broadcast studio, then hit Chinatown and joined a food tour for lunch and at the end of the day, Wicked – my first Broadway show!

Starting in the morning, Tim woke up about 5.30am and I had already committed to going with him to Fox and Friends. The Fox News studio is at the corner between West 48th Street and Sixth Avenue which is the same street (48th) and not far walking from our Gallivant Hotel.

Tim is a big fan of Fox and Friends, the morning news which starts from 6-9 in the morning. I’m sure that we were the only 2 tourists who woke up super early in Time Square today – there were just a few fans this morning, but we were there, and Tim was happy!!! (I found out that it gets more crowded later.)

The Fox News reporters will take turns to meet fans, when we were there it was the weather lady’s turn (Heather Dean).

They seem very friendly, taking pictures etc with all the fans. – I think this turns to be one on my MUST DO in New York City for any Fox News Fan.

Finally, Tim got to be on the morning news that day!!!

Fox always has some activities outside the studio. Like the 2nd morning that we went back there, they had a live concert from a 90’s boy band.

After we visited Fox studio’s, we stopped for a Bagel, the traditional breakfast in New York!

There were 2 bagel shops that we tried on this trip, Pick A Bagel and Roast Kitchen. For me, I liked Roast Kitchen better! The Bagel with any selection cream will cost about $5-$6, my favorite cream is “cream cheese” – yum!

They also serve a breakfast menu, but we just liked to have the bagel for breakfast.

In Time Square, you will see so many Bagel & Coffee carts on street as well – I wish I can try them all!!!

Time square in the morning is very quiet – only working people are walking to work, not many tourists.

We were NOT impressed by the Subway system here at all, it’s dirty and the signs were not that great! It was hard to find people working for the Subway tickets (we accidentally found one – but I can’t remember anymore where it is).

During our previous travels in NON-English countries, we used mass transit and we didn’t have any problem with Subway systems, only in NEW YORK!!!

We walked back our hotel for a power nap before our next tour, Food Tour in Chinatown (10am – 2pm).

And after the food tour in Chinatown, we came back to the hotel to relax for our Boardway “Wicked” at 8pm.

Tim picked “Wicked” for my first Broadway show. I don’t know why but Wicked has always been in the top 5 for Broadway shows ever since they opened on October 30, 2003 in NYC and later around the world!

I thought it would be easy to find “the theater”, I found out (after Tim yelled at me), that there are so many Boardway theatres in NYC, especially in Time Square. They are everywhere!

SO…one show is for one theatre! We walked to find the theatre for Wicked after we got back from Chinatown to make sure that we won’t have any problem to find it tonight. It’s a good idea!

I was concerned about the dress code for the broadway show.

When I went to check out about this question on the official website http://www.boardway.com, they said “While going to the theater is certainly a special occasion, there is no required dress code. You’ll probably be most comfortable in casual business wear”

Our friend’s son who worked on Boardway in NYC, got tickets for us. He told us that we would see people in different dress from evening dress, suit & tie and even short pants and a t-shirt!

So I think they didn’t care much about dressing for boardway show!

But we were dressed better!

We got here about 7.30 pm (our show is at 8pm), there are some small shops for drinks (looks like Movie theatre shops) with souvenir cups for $7 with punch or $19 cocktails.

We paid about $151 each for Wicked tickets, as I mentioned that our friend’s son got the tickets for us and he found us the best spot (in the middle/center in that theatre).

The wicked ticket is between $109-$222, the walk-in ticket is also available in front of the theatre if unsold. But you can book it online at their websites.

Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz. The story is about 2 friends, one born with emerald-green skin “Elphaba”, and the other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular “Glinda”.

I think Glinda is cute and funny – she is very popular on stage as well as she should be in the story! Elphaba is always “GREEN”…Really? I was hoping to see her in beautiful version but we could see only her beautiful voice when she sings for the show – and she is really good at it!

My favorite song from this show is For Good,…”Becuase I knew you, I’ve been changed for good”…

Fiyero (Elphaba’s boyfriend), the actor is so cute and handsome! – he looks like Disney Prince!

They do not allow you to take photo or video during the show.

Wicked is approximately two hours and 45 minutes, with one 15-minute break. During the break, it’s about time for the restroom. The ladies room had a very long line but it went very fast as they provided restroom-traffic ladies!

Before the show, I felt like it’s expensive but after that I felt like it’s worth it!
We left the theatre about 11pm and we took a walk around Time Square at Night, just to see the night lights.

Guess what? We didn’t feel hungry at all – I guess we were full from the Food Tour in Chinatown!!!

It was a good plan for a full day trip in Time square – as you know the hotels are very expensive – So plan ahead for your trip in NYC!
