Windy Hill, Geoje Island

Our visit to Windy Hill, an ocean cliffside hill with a windmill on top with a quick stop for a hotdog at Wind at Baram Hotdog.

This is a top-listed Must See in Geoje Island. The unusual windmill style in Korea on the cliffside hill named “Windy Hill” or in Korean as Baram On-deok (바람의언덕).

Baram (바람) means Wind, On-Deok (언덕) means Hill…

We like to travel like locals, so today we targeted, 1. The Windy Hill and 2. Baram Hotdog for trying the hotdog!

I’ve been told, the Windy hill is GOOD TO GO anytime of year! But we went there in wintertime (January), the weather was about 5-10 Celsius. The road was not that green, we hope to drive back here during the Korean cherry blossom time, I’m sure it will be pretty here.

Our car GPS didn’t recognize our search for Windy Hill, so it might be lost in translation! Luckily, we have Kakao Map on our smartphone and that works!

As we got close, we saw many small windmills along the road.

At the Windy Hill, there is no entrance fee, no parking fee (we parked on the side of the road).

We parked our car here, you can see the windmill behind us.

The main parking area is surrounded by seafood restaurants, and one big coffee shop “Angel in us”. There is a public restroom in the middle of the parking lot, it looks a little old outside but it’s clean inside!

We didn’t plan to eat over here, so we walked right up to the windmill. There is an Observation Deck and you can walk above the ocean to see the panorama view.

The beautiful view becomes more popular for local tourists because 3 movies were made here.

These 3 popular films were made here from 2003 – 2005.

The observation deck with the Windmill in the background.

There are many fishing tours around the area, but it’s not a good time to try for us (it’s very cold!)

To walk up to the Windy Hill for the windmill, there are so many tourists of all ages.

Does Korean like to take a picture of theirs back? I saw this trend of a picture in among of young Korean a lot.

But we still like to take selfie LOL.

The Windmill wasn’t spinning today but the view is stunning!

Each side of the windmill has different types of views.

A must-visit for nature lovers. We spent almost an hour here to walk around and take pictures.

As I mentioned the most popular snack at the Windy hill is HOTDOG! There is a small hotdog shop in front of the walkway up to the windy hill (But we planned to eat at the original and bigger shop later)

There are also many local snack shops, coffee shops.

But the most interesting local food is on the path to the hill with all the local ladies’ in booths selling seafood steaming/boiling.

There are clams, shells sell-by Ajumma (Korean Retirement age lady). But one of her food looks like feet!  The sign says 거북손 or Turtle hand (Translated from the Korean language) or Capitulum Mitella which we don’t really know what that was?!?!?

I wanted to try it but no one could tell me what they are.
So I googled it to find out more info, then I changed my mind LOL. It doesn’t look good after its peeled…

Dried fish is selling everywhere on this island…

Next, we drove to Baram Hotdog (바람의핫도그) which is about 3 km away. This hotdog shop opened in 2005, and it’s very popular for tourists and locals during a visit to Windy Hill.

The hotdog shop is in Dadae Village. The shop is too big for just hotdogs and drinks?!?!?

There are so many hotdogs on the menu, costs around 4000 – 5500 won each ($4-$5). This kind of like a corn dog!

The covered sausage or hotdog battered, then deep fry the whole thing!

It’s good! We enjoyed eating the hotdogs with drinks at this shop so much!

Good snack, warm, soft and chewy…

That’s all for us today, one of our nicest days living in Geoje!

If you are looking for full-day trip around Windy Hill, you can also buy the ferry ticket to visit Oedo Island and Geoje Haegeumgang (We’ll save this for a summer trip in Geoje).

In this area (not too far but NOT too close), you can stop at Gujora Beach (I heard this is the most beautiful beach in Geoje), or Mukdung Waterfall!
